Global Competition Review has recognized Winston & Strawn’s Antitrust/Competition Practice as “highly recommended” in New York and Illinois, and “recommended” in California in the 23rd edition of the GCR 100. For over two decades, GCR’s rankings have provided a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the law firms and economic consultancies doing the most important antitrust work around the world.

The publication notes that Winston’s New York Antitrust team has “notched up some impressive victories recently, including before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of student athletes challenging the NCAA’s restrictions on education-related benefits.”

GCR states that Winston’s Illinois Antitrust team “stands out among Illinois rivals for its ongoing work across all areas of civil and criminal litigation, merger control and compliance.” GCR noted the team’s ongoing representation of Claxton Poultry in the Broiler Chicken antitrust litigation and its dismissal of a proposed antitrust class action filed against Morgan Stanley-led investment entity Chicago Parking Meters that claimed its 75-year-long US$1.15B concession agreement to operate Chicago’s on-street parking meters violated the Sherman Antitrust Act.

GCR recognized Winston’s California Antitrust team for its representation of a variety of clients, including defending (alongside the Illinois team) Discover Financial Services in a merchant class action and representing (alongside the New York team) both student-athletes seeking damages from the NCAA over its use of their names, images, and likenesses, and a class of professional swimmers pursuing antitrust claims against the sport’s international organizer, FINA.

GCR also called out Winston’s New York-led representation of plaintiff TreeHouse Foods in the In re Keurig Green Mountain Single-Serve Coffee antitrust litigation and its Washington, D.C.-led work guiding Danfoss through its US$3.3B acquisition of hydraulics business Eaton, among other successes.
