Winston & Strawn’s Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer—Sylvia James—authored an insightful article that was featured in Savoy Magazine’s 2022 Influential Black Lawyers edition. The article highlights Winston’s Diversity and Inclusion Associate Sponsorship Program and outlines the four key components to an effective sponsorship program.

Our newest class of 28 protégés-sponsor pairs gathered in Chicago on February 10-11 for the official launch of the 12-month program, which will include the opportunity for each protégé to work with their sponsor on a client or business development project; goal-setting supported by individual coaching; and training on executive presence, business development, leadership skills, and other topics.

Winston & Strawn was excited to introduce a fresh take on associate mentoring to the 290 mentee/mentor pairs participating in the firm’s 2018 program. Our Mentoring Program starts all mentor-mentee pairs on the same path with the flexibility to meet their own unique interests, needs, and goals. Members of Winston’s Attorney Recruiting & Development, Learning & Development, and Coaching departments provided support and guidance throughout the year.

Winston was excited to introduce a fresh take on associate mentoring to the 278 mentee/mentor pairs participating in the firm’s 2018-2019 program. 

The Chicago office celebrated another large class of “Mentor of the Year” award nominees during a luncheon reception on December 21. 

Winston’s mentoring program in Chicago kicked off its fall schedule with an afternoon of food, fun, and friendly competition at Topgolf. 

Winston’s Dallas office, which opened in February 2017, officially launched its attorney mentoring program with a kickoff event on September 25. 

The relationships that Chicago partner Oscar David has built with his current and past mentees epitomize the positive effects of Winston’s successful mentoring program—easier communication among attorneys, expanded networking opportunities, and the opportunity to do more creative and productive work.

The Chicago office celebrated its largest-ever class of “Mentor of the Year” award nominees during a luncheon reception on December 12. Sixteen of our Chicago associates nominated their mentors for the 2016 awards, punctuating the strength of Winston’s mentoring program, which provides career guidance and professional development support to our junior attorneys.

The firm honored its 2015 Charlotte office “Mentor of the Year” award winners during a luncheon reception on February 1. The Charlotte office mentoring program pairs junior- and mid-level associates with a senior-level associate or partner to facilitate open discussion of firm culture, processes, and expectations, including guidance on leadership and partnership goals.

The firm honored its 2015 Chicago office “Mentor of the Year” award winners during a luncheon reception on January 14. 

On November 5 and 6, Winston’s Chicago office hosted over 60 young minds from the pre-law class at Jones College Prep High School who were eager to learn about life in a big law firm. 

A group of our New York attorneys attended a Harvard Law School Master Class for 1L students on “The Art of Mingling and Working a Room” on October 26. The program featured a presentation on how to navigate a networking reception and was followed by an actual networking reception with law firm attorneys.
