Courtney Block
Associate
Courtney focuses her litigation practice on product liability, securities litigation, patent, and other commercial claims in both state and federal court. She has experience in all phases of the litigation process, including pretrial discovery and motion practice, trial, post-trial matters, and appeals.
She has helped conduct fact and expert discovery; participated in jury research; assisted with opening and closing statements; prepared expert witnesses for direct and cross-examination; and drafted dispositive motions.
Courtney also maintains an active pro bono practice. Her recent pro bono matters include drafting an amicus brief on behalf of the Equal Rights Amendment Coalition and over 50 organizations that fight for sex equality and women’s rights, representing a woman fleeing domestic violence in asylum proceedings, and assisting a transgender individual in federal custody to receive gender-affirming surgery in a landmark victory against the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. Courtney also serves on the Chicago office chapter of Winston’s Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI).

Courtney received her B.A., summa cum laude, in English Literature from Arizona State University and Barrett, The Honors College, in 2015. She received her J.D. from the University of Chicago in 2019.
