With strong North American roots originating in Chicago in 1853, Winston & Strawn serves businesses—from Fortune 500 corporations and financial institutions to small and midsize companies—from across America. In the 1970s, our law firm began expanding beyond Chicago and today has offices in Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Washington, D.C.
Our established presence across North America allows our attorneys to efficiently and effectively meet our clients’ legal needs. With the most recent openings in Dallas and Silicon Valley to serve clients in intellectual property, commercial litigation, and corporate and financial matters, to expanding our presence in New York to better assist clients with their financial services needs, we have the experience to advance our clients’ business objectives in the United States and abroad.
With nearly 900 attorneys across the United States, we work together to resolve challenging deals and complex cases. We are proud of our people, the interesting matters we handle, and the impressive clients we serve.

Winston & Strawn’s Los Angeles office is home to more than 100 attorneys and professional staff, providing legal services to one of the largest economies in the world for nearly 20 years.
Our Los Angeles lawyers are top-ranked in commercial litigation, restructuring, corporate lending, private equity, energy, and project finance. Our L.A.-based team collaborates closely with our teams in offices in the U.S. - including in San Francisco and Silicon Valley, and in Europe and Asia - enabling us to provide comprehensive service across all of the firm’s practice areas, to our West Coast clients and to clients in other regions with operations or legal needs in California.
With a culture that represents Southern California’s entrepreneurial spirit, our attorneys are regularly honored with high-profile awards and recognitions by organizations such as Chambers USA, The American Lawyer, the Daily Journal, and The Recorder.
Our Los Angeles office also has a strong tradition of giving back to the community through pro bono, volunteer, and charitable activities. Attorneys in the office go all-in to support the firm’s pro bono program, achieving 100 percent contribution of 20 or more hours and earning a visit from the In-N-Out Burger truck for three years running. In one recent case, we secured asylum for a Guatemalan client in the face of recent rollbacks of protections for refugees fleeing domestic violence and ensured she could legally work and support her family during the seven years her case languished in immigration court.
Through our education partnership with Read to a Child, a national nonprofit literacy and mentoring organization, an amazing group of dedicated volunteers in our L.A. office participate in weekly reading sessions with children at Leo Politi Elementary School. Learning Rights Law Center’s Raising the Bar for Education Challenge, which encompasses pro bono service, fundraising, and a school supply drive; the Food from the Bar campaign to benefit the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank; and the Ketchum-Downtown YMCA Stair Climb also draw enthusiastic participation by firm members each year. As part of Winston’s Earth Week Campaigns, our L.A. office sponsored a hive through Honey Love to help ensure a flourishing bee population and removed trash and recyclables along the LA River on California Coastal Cleanup Day.
