Winston & Strawn partner Conor Reidy spoke with Private Funds CFO to discuss the first-of-its-kind antitrust law in Washington state and what this means for private fund managers. Under the new law, which will take effect July 27, any company required to file for Federal Trade Commission merger review under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act that does sufficient business in Washington must also file for review with Washington’s attorney general. What Is The Jones Act?

The Jones Act, as used in the world of shipping is a law that reserves the transportation of goods between two points in the United States to qualified U.S.-flag vessels. This coastwise reservation law is named after its chief sponsor, Senator Wesley L. Jones. Similar laws apply to the transportation of passengers and reserve towing, dredging, and fishing in U.S. waters to qualified U.S.-flag vessels.
