What Is the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Law?
The European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) law is an act, applied across the Union, which directs data privacy. The GDPR law is designed to protect the data privacy of all EU citizens and guide organizational approaches to handling data, as well as transferring it across borders. Under the GDPR, breach notification is mandatory within 72 hours if the breach is likely to “result in a risk for the rights and freedoms of individuals.” The GDPR applies to organizations within the EU as well as those outside of the EU if they offer goods or services to European citizens. It also applies to organizations that monitor the behavior of data subjects online.

Trans fats are ingredients found in food, which can be artificial or naturally occurring. Meat and milk products may contain naturally occurring trans fats. Artificial trans fat is made by adding hydrogen to vegetable oil. The liquid then becomes a solid at room temperature. Research has shown that eating trans fats can be linked to cardiovascular disease. In 2015, the FDA determined that the primary source of artificial trans fats, partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs), are not generally regarded as safe (GRAS). PHOs are in many processed foods.

What Is Consumer Targeting Law?
The protection of consumers’ privacy online is addressed within the field of consumer targeting law. The Federal Trade Commission’s Behavioral Advertising Principles recommend that websites disclose data collection policies, which are used to create consumer-targeted advertising. The FTC also advises that websites allow consumers to opt out of data collection. The FTC Act can be used to charge companies that do not adhere to their stated consumer privacy policies, do not protect consumer data, or do not provide adequate notifications of privacy policy changes. The law does not require all companies to provide privacy policies, though financial firms must disclose their information-sharing policies to their customers.
