Winston & Strawn LLP served as counsel to BitMine Immersion Technologies, Inc. in connection with its acquisition of Pier Two Holdings Pty Ltd, advancing BitMine’s strategy to scale its institutional Ethereum staking platform, the Made in America Validator Network (MAVAN). The acquisition positions BitMine, the world’s largest Ethereum Digital Asset Treasury (DAT) company and the second largest DAT globally, to expand its digital asset management and staking services.

Court Ruling Curtails Administration’s Ability to Terminate Grants Based on New Priorities
On March 24, 2026, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois decided that federal grantees can challenge grant terminations by the Administration if at the time of termination the grantees were compliant with Administration policies that were in place at the time the grant was awarded, as opposed to new rules or policies subsequently imposed by the Trump Administration. This decision could aid federal contractors and grantees in their legal challenges to the numerous contract and grant terminations, which have occurred since January 2025, based on alleged failure of the contracts or grants to align with or effectuate new Administration programs, policies, goals, and/or priorities, including, but not limited to, those relating to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs and policies.

Imports are goods that enter the customs territory of a given country after having been exported from a foreign destination. Imports and exports together represent foundational aspects of international trade. Therefore, they are often subject to trade agreements between jurisdictions, trade remedies that increase the cost of importing goods, and more cross-border considerations. In addition, countries may impose customs duties and/or tariffs, in other words taxes, on goods that enter the customs territory of a given country. Imports are fundamental to international trade and commerce. As such, legal issues arising from imports may implicate foreign policy, regulatory compliance, and cross-border transactions.
