
David J. Phillips
Associate
David is a dedicated litigator whose strong advocacy skills and commitment to client service drive his pursuit of outstanding results in a variety of litigation matters.
David is an Associate Attorney and former LCLD scholar, focusing on securities litigation and general litigation matters. He has handled complex legal issues with a view towards the entire litigation process leading up to trial. As a Winston Summer Associate, David contributed to a trial team that secured a $1.125 million jury verdict in a § 1983 case involving false arrest and denial of the right to a fair trial based on fabricated evidence.
In addition to his professional commitments, David is deeply engaged with First Amendment jurisprudence and appellate advocacy. David has researched and written widely on these topics and maintains an active pro bono practice supporting these causes. He has conducted legal research through the Kellogg Institute for International Studies and La Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile on topics including US Supreme Court jurisprudence, comparative constitutionalism, and international human rights laws and bodies. David combines these varied interests with prior work experience in the alcohol beverage and agricultural industries to approach new topics with agility and keen interest.

Education
David earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2024, where he was recognized as a James Kent Scholar for high academic honors and received the Jeffrey Williams Memorial Prize for the best paper in Critical Rights Analysis. He served as an Executive Editor for the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law and a staffer for the Columbia Journal of Gender and Law. David also competed in the Gender and Sexuality Moot Court, was a member of the Latinx Law Students Association, as well as an executive board member of OutLaws and the Tenants’ Rights Project. He received his B.A., cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 2021, studying English and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE).
