Libby Deshaies

Behind the scenes, Libby advises companies, executives, and public figures on brand protection, reputational risk, and dispute resolution strategy. She collaborates closely with clients to manage risk, control messaging, and achieve efficient, business-focused outcomes—whether through litigation or discreet out-of-court resolutions.

Libby played a key role on the team that defended Fox News Network LLC in its high-profile litigation with Dominion Voting Systems, where she helped manage a large team of associates and coordinated complex discovery and trial preparation.  She also represented Northwestern University’s former head football coach, Patrick Fitzgerald, in a defamation and breach-of-contract action that the parties resolved to Coach Fitzgerald’s satisfaction shortly before trial. In addition, she is part of the Winston team that led Alphatec Spine and a key surgeon consultant to three consecutive litigation victories against an industry rival.

Libby draws on her experience clerking for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the Illinois Supreme Court to craft litigation strategies that are built for trial and position her clients for success on appeal. She was part of teams that argued two cases before the Illinois Supreme Court during the November 2019 term, securing favorable opinions in both.

She maintains an active pro bono practice, representing indigent defendants in criminal appeals and civil rights trials and partnering with nonprofit organizations to address systemic issues in the immigration and asylum system.
