Washington, D.C. – March 2, 2026 – Winston & Strawn LLP announced today that Matthew Huppert has joined the firm as a Partner in Washington, D.C as a member of the Litigation Department and the Antitrust & Competition Practice. He comes to the firm from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, where he served as a trial attorney and counsel to the Assistant Attorney General.
Matt is a first-chair trial lawyer who brings extensive litigation experience, a deep knowledge of antitrust, and a fresh enforcement perspective, further strengthening the firm’s market leadership in litigation, antitrust, and government investigations. At the DOJ, Matt served in lead roles on trial teams in monopolization and merger cases and advised Antitrust Division leadership on the Division’s civil litigation portfolio under both the Biden and Trump administrations. Prior to serving at DOJ, he worked in private practice for seven years, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in all stages of high-stakes litigation matters, and served in multiple federal clerkships.
“It’s an honor to join a team so widely respected for its trial excellence, antitrust prowess, and collaborative culture,” Matt said. “I’m excited to support Winston’s continued growth in Washington, D.C. and work with my talented colleagues across practices to help clients navigate complex competition, regulatory, and litigation challenges.”
Matt’s diverse, cross-sector litigation experience and antitrust focus align closely with Winston’s premier litigation platform, as well as current and evolving client needs. His multifaceted practice, spanning industries and subject matters, positions him well to advise clients when competition issues intersect with other important business considerations, such as intellectual property, labor, and shareholder disclosure.
“Matt’s deep enforcement insight and litigation experience add a valuable dimension to the firm’s client counseling and business development aptitude across various industries,” Litigation Department Co-Chairs Linda Coberly and Brett Johnson said. “We are delighted to welcome him to the team and look forward to his immediate collaboration on active client engagements and investigations.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Matt to Winston’s D.C. office,” added David Rogers, Washington D.C. office managing partner. “Matt’s recent experience with the DOJ adds to our market leadership in core practices and aligns seamlessly with our growth objectives.”
