Described as “one of the most sought-after trial lawyers in the country,” a “celebrated storyteller,” and a “game-changing ringer,” Winston & Strawn’s Dallas Managing Partner, Thomas M. Melsheimer, has been named to D Magazine’s inaugural Best Lawyers Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame honorees represent the 50 top lawyers in North Texas who have been recognized in D Magazine’s Best Lawyers for at least 15 years; in Tom’s case, the number is 17. Tom has been honored in every edition of D’s Best Lawyers since its inception in 2001—which is quite an accomplishment given that the number of lawyers in the Dallas-Fort Worth region has doubled within this time frame.

Tom’s success as a trial lawyer is “unlike many in his field,” according to a 2019 D Magazine profile. He is recognized for his achievements in business/commercial litigation, including intellectual property, business torts, mass torts, and False Claims Act litigation.

Tom has worked on several high-profile cases, including when he served as pro bono lead counsel for a group of children with disabilities challenging the legality of a Texas executive order banning mask mandates in public schools, as well as his victorious representation of billionaire Mark Cuban, which acquitted Cuban of insider trading in a case brought by the SEC.

In addition to his many other accolades, Tom was honored by the Dallas Bar Association and the Texas Chapters of the American Board of Trial Advocates as their “Trial Lawyer of the Year.” He was the youngest trial lawyer to be honored by these groups.

D Magazine recognizes individuals and communities in Dallas and the surrounding areas that make the city a “better place to live, work, and play.” Tom will be featured in the March 2022 issue, which hits newsstands March 3.
