March 2014

On March 4, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6 to 3 that the anti-retaliation provision of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) protects whistleblowers employed by private companies that contract with publicly traded businesses covered by SOX. See Lawson v. FMR LLC, No. 12-3. This decision is significant for employers in a range of industries, including investment advising, accounting, and law.
