Winston & Strawn partner John Rosenthal spoke at PLI's Electronic Discovery Guidance 2012: What Corporate and Outside Counsel Need to Know, held in New York City on September 24, 2012.
The program was designed to provide counsel with practical strategies and the understanding necessary to advise clients on e-discovery issues, and addressed the development of e-discovery law, the current state of e-discovery, tips for avoiding pitfalls, and ethical issues.
Mr. Rosenthal participated in the panel, "Annual Update of In-house Counsel's Guide to E-Discovery: Everything You Need to Know," which covered:
- Obtaining the in-house buy-in for e-discovery
- When to outsource and when to build in-house
- Necessary technical tools to effectively manage e-discovery
- How cloud applications implicate e-discovery for the corporation
- The e-discovery competencies you should demand of your outside counsel
- Budgeting for e-discovery
Mr. Rosenthal is chairman of the firm's e-discovery and electronic information practice group and is one of the most experienced practitioners in the United States in the area of electronic discovery and risk reduction from electronic discovery. With this background, he counsels a wide variety of companies on record retention programs, compliance with electronic discovery, and implementing programs to reduce risk associated with the generation and retention of electronic records and privacy.
