Many maritime and transportation industry stakeholders are speculating about the rejuvenation of our intermodal infrastructure, deepening of ports, and the long-sought rightful allocation of the Harbor Maintenance Tax, restoration of the badly trampled U.S.-flag blue water fleet, double-stack train clearance for all, better flow of more goods and services, reduction and streamlining of regulations, and restored prosperity under the Trump Administration. Roughly 70 days into the new President’s tenure, as of this writing, much remains unanswered. However, there are breadcrumbs and tea leaves worth examining. And given the paucity of activity in Congress, your Window on Washington would be remiss if it did not at least try to paint a picture of the Trump Administration’s plans as they impact the maritime industry.
