March 16, 2018

Firm members enjoyed meeting and sharing their insights with the 50 Berkeley law students who joined us on March 13 for a Winston-provided lunch and panel discussion titled, “Choose Your Own Practice Area Adventure: Litigation v. Transactional.”

Associates provided the litigation point of view, countered by the transactional side.

Our panelists opened with introductions about their backgrounds and experience, and talked about how they came to practice at Winston. The program was moderated by Attorney Recruiting & Development Manager Victor Barnett, who guided the panelists through questions about why they chose and what has surprised them about their respective practice areas, as well as the personality differences between litigators and deal lawyers, and the particular challenges they each face. In closing, the panelists offered advice to the students interested in pursuing litigation or transactional careers.

Attendees at this popular event were primarily 1L students, as well as few 2Ls.

The Winston panelists took time after the formal presentation to meet attendees and answer their questions.

This entry has been created for information and planning purposes. It is not intended to be, nor should it be substituted for, legal advice, which turns on specific facts.
