Summer Associates Sharpen Their Legal Writing Skills
Blog
June 9, 2016
Our summer associates in Chicago recently participated in a Writing Workshop, which kicked off with a presentation by Chicago Office Managing Partner and Appellate & Critical Motions Chair–Linda Coberly. The workshop focused on producing quality written work product for quick-turnaround research projects. After the presentation, the summers received a hypothetical problem and were given a few days to submit a two-page written response. An attorney reviewed their work and provided feedback.
The workshop garnered many positive responses from our summer associates such as:
“I had a chance to see how a Winston memo should look, and a chance to receive positive feedback from an associate that I could work with in the future.”
“The tips covered in the lecture provided a good sense of what the firm looks for in its written work product and what attorneys will expect to read.”
“The critique by the writing adviser was extremely detailed and provided good contrast between what is taught in a law school memo and what is expected in a practitioner memo.”
