Winston & Strawn recently hosted a recruiting Q&A with Columbia Law School for prospective summer associates titled “A Day in the Life of a Big Law Attorney.”

During a recent virtual recruiting event for the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, a panel of past and incoming summer associates discussed what applicants can expect from Winston & Strawn’s summer program.

Choosing a firm for your summer associateships is a daunting task. In addition to a firm’s reputation, you also have to factor in major elements including the quality of work experience, firm culture, and (most recently) how the firm has adapted their program to adhere to social distancing restrictions.

On the heels of a successful summer program that resulted in the extension of permanent offers to all of our 2019 summer associates, we are pleased to report that 70 2L students will be summering with Winston in 2020.

We are pleased to report that at the conclusion of the program, the firm extended offers to all 2L summer associates to join the firm after graduation. In addition, the first-year law students who joined our 2019 Summer Program through 1L Leadership Council for Legal Diversity (LCLD) Scholars and Diverse Attorney Pipeline Program (DAPP) Direct have received offers to spend their 2L summer with Winston next year.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility program—Winston for Good—is built on the firm’s values and heritage and makes an intentional impact in our communities. Local office Winston for Good teams identify, coordinate, and mobilize multiple volunteer activities each year, including opportunities for our summer associates to contribute.

Hands-on training and real work assignments are hallmarks of Winston’s summer associate program. This year we introduced Litigation Week and Corporate Week to further enhance law students’ exposure to our wide range of Practice and Industry Areas and the ways in which the firm’s learning culture aligns with these areas. 

Talented rising 2L students from top law schools across the country learned more about the tremendous opportunities at Winston during June receptions held in our Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. offices.

For the second year in a row, Winston hosted a Diverse 1L Roundtable for the law students participating in our summer associate program. The diverse 1Ls gathered in the firm’s Charlotte office for a day of targeted programming before heading to the 1L LCLD Scholars Summit in Atlanta with other students from around the country.

Amazing work, training, and social opportunities are in store for the 78 law students participating in Winston’s 2019 North America Summer Associate Program, which kicked off on May 13.

On the heels of a highly successful on-campus recruiting effort, Winston is pleased to announce that a group of talented 1L students also will be joining the firm’s 2019 Summer Associate Program.
