Winston associates and of counsel from London, Dubai, Moscow, and Paris came together in the London office for the firm’s third annual EME (Europe & Middle East) Region Associates & Counsel Seminar, held on December 8. This valuable, well-attended program consisted of engaging presentations during the day followed by a Latin American-style dinner and cocktails in the evening.
London Office Managing Partner Peter Crowther gave a warm welcome to the attendees before they embarked on a full schedule of events designed to provide guidance on their professional development, insights into firm business, and connections with their colleagues. Winston team members responsible for training, coaching, and diversity and inclusion gave an overview of Winston’s holistic talent management strategy.
The talent overview was followed by an update from the Associates Committee, which is democratically elected and empowered by firm management to provide honest and candid feedback, and an “Effective Working” presentation by London Corporate Partner Nicholas Usher.
In the afternoon, Attorney Recruiting & Development Director Lisa McLafferty and Human Resources Director Julie Marcus presented the robust results of the Winston Experience Engagement Survey, sent to all attorneys and staff globally this fall. Director of Learning & Development Julia Mercier rounded out the professional development portion of the program with a presentation on “Making the Most of Annual Reviews.”
The 32 attorneys who attended the day-long EME seminar also heard from Chief Development Officer Melissa Ertek and Chief Financial Officer David McDonald via videoconference about the firm’s highly positive strategic and financial results during the past year. According to EME Regional Director of Administration Alexandra Wooster, an organizer of this event, “It’s important for our associates and counsel to develop connections with each other that will open doors to future cross-selling opportunities.”
Since no gathering is complete without a social event, attendees and presenters moved on to a restaurant in nearby Shoreditch for dinner, followed by drinks at a bar complete with an illuminated dance floor.
