Bryant Gardner is a partner in Winston & Strawn’s Washington, D.C. office who concentrates his practice in transportation-related transactions, litigation, and regulatory matters, with an emphasis on ocean shipping and maritime issues.

Mr. Gardner’s experience includes transportation contracts drafting and dispute resolution, regulatory counseling, government contract negotiations and disputes, fleet refinancing, newbuild financing and delivery, Shipping Act litigation, environmental crimes defense, and matters involving the carriage of goods including regulated hazardous materials. He also has extensive experience representing carriers, terminals, port authorities, shippers, and other transportation industry clients before the Congress, Federal Maritime Commission, Department of Transportation, Coast Guard, Maritime Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, Customs Service, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, and other agencies.

Mr. Gardner was ranked in Chambers USA 2012 as one of the nation's top lawyers in the transportation regulatory practice.

Winston & Strawn's admiralty and maritime group has been recognized by U.S. News and World Reports - Best Lawyers “Law Firm of the Year” in Admiralty & Maritime Law for 2011-2012.


Activities

Mr. Gardner is the 2012-2014 President of the Propeller Club of the Port of Washington, D.C., and is a proctor member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States. He is a regular columnist in Benedict's Maritime Bulletin, where he writes the "Window on Washington" column, and is a member of the Maritime Administrative Bar Association.


Education

Mr. Gardner received a B.A. in Political Economy, summa cum laude, from Tulane University in 1996, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received a J.D., cum laude, from Tulane Law School in 2000, where he was editor-in-chief for the Tulane Maritime Law Journal.
