Joan Fife Speaks at 23rd Annual All Hands Meeting
December 7, 2011
Winston & Strawn partner Joan Fife spoke at the 23rd Annual All Hands Meeting produced by Ivy Associates in cooperation with the Silicon Valley Association of General Counsel on December 7, 2011.
This annual CLE event addressed legal, regulatory, and ethical issues this community faces on a daily basis. Several sections were available covering corporate and regulatory affairs, technology agreements, advanced IP, life sciences, HR/employment law issues, and legal operations management.
Ms. Fife's presentation, "Hot Button Issues and Emerging Trends in Wage and Hour Law," addressed the impact of Dukes and Concepcion, misclassification, off-the-clock, and California-specific issues, such as meal and rest, seating claims, and expense reimbursement. Included in the discussion were what makes certain employers targets, how to handle reclassifying employees, and the top 10 mistakes employers make in the wage and hour arena.
The 2011 Keynoter was the Hon. Melinda L. Haag, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California.
Ms. Fife is partner and the head of the firm's San Francisco labor and employment group. She represents employers in class action employment litigation and was named in 2009 and 2010 as one of the Daily Journal's Top Women Litigators in California, and in 2010 as one of the Leading Labor and Employment attorneys in California.
