Winston & Strawn opened its Houston office in March 2011 with a prominent team of litigation lawyers well known for their extensive experience handling complex intellectual property and commercial litigation matters. The law firm has diversified to include a corporate practice group, bankruptcy-related litigation and restructuring experience, and an energy practice focusing on oil and gas transactions and projects. In 2017, we added a high-profile real estate transactions team. Houston’s robust practice scope has enabled the office’s attorneys to serve firm clients from a wide range of industries with a broad platform of legal services.
The corporate practice group offers substantial experience with mergers and acquisition, private equity, venture capital, and securities matters. Our real estate team focuses on complex real estate transactions, representing owners, investors, tenants, private equity firms, financial institutions, special servicers, and developers in the acquisition, development, leasing, financing, and sale of all types of properties and companies.
Our energy practice focuses on energy and resource projects and transactions, as well as a wide variety of commercial and operational matters. Our attorneys have experience representing exploration and production companies, oilfield services and equipment firms, pipeline and other midstream companies, as well as refiners and petrochemical companies.
Our proficiencies in intellectual property law include all aspects of patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation, as well as Section 337 claims before the International Trade Commission. With nearly all of the Houston IP attorneys possessing technical degrees, we represent the world’s leading innovators in matters spanning a wide range of technologies and industries, such as energy (including oil and gas), electronics, computers, telecommunications, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and agribusiness.
Commercial litigation experience includes a wide array of civil litigation, including appellate, breach of contract, business tort, securities, antitrust, product liability, consumer fraud class action, financial services litigation, and bankruptcy-related litigation, as well as commercial arbitrations—both domestic and international—involving many industry sectors.
Our lawyers in Houston have a strong commitment to community and the office offers many opportunities for both attorneys and staff to contribute time and services, and make donations, to a variety of organizations. Attorneys support the firm’s strong commitment to pro bono with significant hours devoted to cases involving immigration and asylum matters, human rights abuses, and social justice. In October 2016, the office was named a finalist in Houston Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work” awards.
