Winston To Be Recognized During The Vance Center’s 2021 Celebration of International Pro Bono Excellence
February 14, 2022
Winston & Strawn will be honored during The Cyrus R. Vance Center’s 2021 Celebration of International Pro Bono Excellence. During the event, slated to take place in March 2022 at the New York City Bar Association, the firm will be recognized for its outstanding work on behalf of The Vance Center’s client, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Toxics.
Winston worked with the client to prepare a report for the United Nations Human Rights Council that addressed the “right to science” in the context of toxic and hazardous substances. The “right to science” includes not only the right to participate in scientific endeavors but also access bodies of knowledge connected to the benefits, progress, or advances that result from that science.
“[Winston’s] team accepted the challenge to prepare comparative case studies which illustrated the consequences of violations of the right to science,” said Director of Pro Bono Partnerships Jorge L. Escobeo. “As a result, the Special Rapporteur was able to inform the Human Rights Council Concerning the standards and best practices for the right to science.”
