January 3, 2018
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Winston & Strawn LLP is pleased to announce that Ruth Wimer, Esq, CPA, has joined the firm’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation (EBEC) Practice as a partner in Washington, D.C. Ruth was previously with McDermott Will & Emery and reunites with her former colleagues, the top-ranked twelve-partner EBEC team that joined Winston from McDermott earlier this year.
“Ruth has significant experience advising clients on complex compensation issues, including reporting and withholding,” said Nancy Gerrie, co-chair of Winston’s EBEC Practice. “This capability lends depth to our growing platform of services and Ruth will be an integral part of expanding our premier practice.”
“Ruth’s 30 years of experience as a certified public accountant at a Big Four accounting firm and earlier as a tax specialist with the Internal Revenue Service gives her a unique perspective on a number of compensation subjects,” said Scott Landau, the firm’s EBEC Practice co-chair. “We’re thrilled to have her as part of our growing team.”
Ruth focuses her practice on matters related to executive compensation tax issues, including international, fringe benefits, personal use of employer aircraft, and qualified and non-qualified deferred compensation. She has deep industry knowledge with respect to incentive compensation and multibillion-dollar fee deferral issues for hedge funds and private equity firms, as well as advising on large deduction timing issues in connection with mergers and acquisitions.
While working as a senior partner in the national tax department of a Big Four accounting firm, Ruth was the firm resource on executive compensation. She received her B.S. and B.A. in Business Management from Georgetown University McDonough School of Business, J.D. from American University – Washington College of Law, and LL.M. in Tax from Georgetown University Law Center.
