Winston Attorneys Recognized in The American Lawyer’s Litigator of the Week Column

A Winston & Strawn team was highlighted for their notable win in The American Lawyer’s Litigator of the Week column on February 11, 2022.

The team included Partner Linda Coberly, who got a trial win for Schlumberger Technology Corp. to stand up on appeal at the Fifth Circuit. The team previously landed runners-up honors for fending off the $200-plus million lawsuit Hess Corp. brought over four safety valves purchased from Schlumberger for use on deepwater oil wells in the Gulf of Mexico. Hess claimed the valves didn’t comply with certain American Petroleum Institute standards and that the trial court had misinterpreted those standards in its earlier decision. But the Fifth Circuit concluded this week that “Schlumberger’s interpretation, adopted by the district court, is the better one under Texas law.”
