NEW YORK–April 23, 2021–Winston & Strawn is pleased to announce the addition of Rodrigo Carvalho to its New York office as a member of Winston’s Latin America group. He previously was Bank of America’s Head of Investment Banking (Legal Division) in Brazil, working in the bank’s São Paulo, Brazil office.
Rodrigo will help lead the formation of Winston & Strawn’s affiliated foreign legal consultancy firm in Brazil. He will be a partner of the Brazilian affiliate, advising on international law matters in accordance with Brazilian bar rules.
“Winston has an internationally recognized multi-disciplinary Latin America practice that has led award-winning and landmark transactions, high-profile disputes and noteworthy compliance matters throughout the region,” said Carvalho. “I look forward to helping to further project Winston’s presence into Brazil, where it already has a strong roster of clients.”
Rodrigo has extensive transactional experience in Brazil and internationally across a broad spectrum of industries. He will advise on cross-border M&A, international debt and equity offerings, and finance matters involving Brazil and other parts of Latin America. Rodrigo will also support Winston’s US and international offices on matters relating to Brazil and the region in areas such as antitrust, compliance, disputes, investigations, and sanctions.
“We are excited to have Rodrigo join Winston and to help us leverage the decades of experience that our Latin America group has in Brazil,” said Talbert Navia, co-head of the Latin America & Caribbean Practice. “Rodrigo’s experience as head of investment banking legal in Brazil at a major global bank adds invaluable capabilities to our practice in Brazil and throughout the region,” said Allen Miller, who is co-head of the practice with Mr. Navia.
Rodrigo has worked in New York, London and São Paulo during his legal career. He received an LL.M degree (with honors) from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and is admitted to practice in New York. He is also admitted to the bar in Brazil.
“Brazil continues to grow in importance as a focal point for complex cross-border M&A and financial transactions throughout Latin America,” said Winston Chairman Tom Fitzgerald. “Rodrigo’s background and leadership will be essential as we address the increasingly diverse needs of our global clientele in this region.”
