Data Breaches Are the New Reality: Are You Ready?
Webinar
February 6, 2014
Winston & Strawn hosted an eLunch titled “Data Breaches Are the New Reality: Are You Ready?” on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 12:15 – 1:30 p.m. (Central).
The hackers are out there, are you ready? 2014 is proving to be the year of data security and data breaches. This eLunch focused on recent types of attacks popular with hackers, how to take appropriate security steps, and what to do if a hacker gets through. We discussed creating an appropriate breach plan before an incident happens, investigating a potential breach, and sending out statutorily-required notices. We looked to US state and federal requirements, as well as global breach notice laws. The eLunch also covered the litigation exposure after a breach notice is sent, and steps a company can take to prepare for the potential class action and regulatory onslaught.
This eLunch was presented by William Ridgway, an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois who serves as the National Security Cyber Specialist and the Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Coordinator for the Office, and attorney Steven Grimes, who formerly investigated cyber-crime matters as a federal prosecutor.
