Answering the Call To Help During COVID-19
March 4, 2021
In March 2020, Immediate Past President Doug Young challenged Fellows to help those most in need of care, support, and assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although many Fellows rose to meet his challenge, Access to Justice Distinguished Pro Bono Fellow and Winston & Strawn Partner Kimball Anderson and his wife Karen Gatsis Anderson found a unique way to help individuals in need. Kimball and Karen answered Doug’s call by funding a first of its kind COVID-19 focused public interest internship program in collaboration with the University of Illinois College of Law.
The Anderson Internship Program was not only a win for the fifteen participating law school students but also the ten public interest organizations that hosted the interns. This partnership helped improve the lives of the students as well as countless other individuals who have been negatively impacted by pandemic-related legal problems.
