Although Venezuela remains subject to sanctions targeting the Government of Venezuela (GoV) and entities in which it holds a 50% or greater ownership interest, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued a series of General Licenses (GLs) representing the broadest easing of Venezuela-related sanctions in years.

On January 28, 2026, the SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance, Division of Investment Management, and Division of Trading and Markets jointly issued a Statement on the taxonomies associated with various products marketed as “tokenized securities.” The Statement confirmed what has been previously expressed in public statements: tokenization does not alter the legal status of a security or lessen regulatory obligations.

As we previously noted, a legal challenge to California’s climate disclosure laws has made its way to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which stayed enforcement of one of the laws pending appeal.
