Matthew focuses his practice on complex civil litigation in state and federal courts. He has experience representing clients facing patent infringement suits, deceptive trade practices claims, post-acquisition disputes, and other complex business litigation, as well as government and internal investigations. 

Matthew is a dependable legal researcher, writer, and advocate. He contributes to every stage of the case—conducting thorough factual and legal research, drafting persuasive motions and briefs, developing case strategy, preparing for trial or argument, and navigating settlement negotiations.

Before joining Winston, Matthew externed with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, where he helped prosecute violent crimes and firearms and drug offenses. He also externed for the Honorable Robert J. Steigmann of the Illinois Appellate Court.

Matthew maintains an active pro bono practice. He is currently representing a former resident of the Illinois Department of Corrections in bringing constitutional claims against several correctional officers under Section 1983, as well as leading efforts to secure the compassionate release of a terminally ill incarcerated person under Illinois’ Joe Coleman Medical Release Act.

Education

Matthew earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2024, where he was a Harno Scholar and a Notes Editor for The Elder Law Journal. He received his B.S. in Management and International Business from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business in 2021.
