Karalena is a litigator who concentrates her practice on complex commercial and patent litigation. She has experience representing clients in all phases of litigation, including trial and appeal, in both state and federal court.

Karalena has experience in all phases of trial litigation, including developing claims and defenses, taking and defending depositions, drafting dispositive motions, and preparing expert witnesses for trial. Karalena focuses her intellectual property practice on pharmaceutical patent litigation and has represented pharmaceutical clients from pre-suit strategy development through trial and appeal. She has been an integral member of several trial teams and specializes in preparing subject-matter experts for trial. In her appellate practice, Karalena has briefed appeals to the Federal, Fifth, and Eleventh Circuits, as well as pro bono appeals to the Illinois Appellate and Supreme Courts. Karalena regularly counsels her clients on complex legal questions by relying on thorough research and analysis to develop creative solutions to meet their needs.

  • Contributed to a successful motion to dismiss on employment discrimination claims and appellate briefing that resulted in affirmance by the Fifth Circuit.

Education

Karalena received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School, where she served as editor-in-chief of the Michigan Journal of Gender and Law and co-chair of the Family Law Project. She graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University Chicago in 2011, with a B.A. in Journalism and a B.A. in International Studies.
