Sean focuses his practice on intellectual property and complex commercial disputes.

Sean has experience representing clients at all stages of high stakes matters, including pre-dispute investigations, complex discovery practice, critical motions, jury trials and arbitrations, and appeals. He has a particular focus on representing technology and media companies in intellectual property and commercial disputes, and is a member of the firm’s Videogame, Gaming and Esports Group, which is dedicated to providing comprehensive legal solutions to companies in these industries. Sean has also represented clients in a broad array of white collar and regulatory matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Sean served as an intern with the United States Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York, in both the Civil and Criminal Divisions, and as a judicial intern for the Hon. George B. Daniels of the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York. He also interned with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Enforcement Division in New York, as part of its Honors Law Program.

Before attending law school, Sean worked for six years in contemporary art galleries in New York, managing artists whose works were collected and exhibited internationally by major institutions.

  • Representation of internet service providers in a series of large-scale suits brought by major record companies and music publishers alleging infringement on peer-to-peer networks, like BitTorrent.
  • Representation of a consumer application company in trademark and trade dress claims.
  • Representation of a video game publisher in direct and secondary copyright infringement claims.
  • Representation of technology company in multi-week arbitration on claims relating to the scope of an international patent license.
  • Representation of technology company in multi-week jury trial on fraud claims arising out of a patent licensing agreement.
  • Representation of online media company against claims of improperly removing content under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
  • Representation of internet service provider in suit relating to Digital Millennium Copyright Act notice and take down procedures.
  • Representation of online media company against claims of defamation.
  • Representation of major technology company against claims of antitrust violations relating to a joint venture patent pool.
  • Representation of major bank against claims of antitrust violations and other claims arising out of a dispute concerning a patent covering electronic bank transmission technology.

Commercial Litigation:

  • Representation of national reverse mortgage servicing company in large-scale indemnification dispute.
  • Representation of national clothing retailer in multiple commercial real estate disputes arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Representation and counseling of private equity companies in indemnification disputes.
  • Representation of major insurance company in defense of putative class action alleging claims under the Medicare Secondary Payer Act.

Financial Industry and Securities Litigation:

  • Representation of major bank and former and current officers and directors in connection with putative derivative and securities class action.
  • Representation of individual and financial firm in multi-week FINRA arbitration against claims of breach of non-compete agreements.

Criminal and Regulatory Matters:

  • Representation of individuals responding to deposition and document subpoenas and information requests from an array of enforcement entities, including the U.S. Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the New York Attorney General’s Office, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, and the New York Stock Exchange.
  • Representation of major public technology company in connection with large-scale false claims investigation brought by the U.S. Department of Justice and multiple states attorneys general.
  • Representation of company and current and former employees in connection with responding to interview requests from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division, Major Procurement Fraud Unit.
  • Representation of foreign company in connection with charges brought by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security, relating to sales of goods to Iran.
  • Representation of client in jury trial on a charge of murder.
  • Regularly advise transactional clients on issues relating to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the False Claims Act, anti-money laundering laws and regulations, and trade sanctions compliance.

Pro Bono Representations:

  • Argued multiple appeals before New York’s Appellate Division, First Department, in connection with co-representations with the Legal Aid Society’s Criminal Appeals Bureau and New York’s Center for Appellate Litigation.
  • Argued multiple motions and hearings in New York Family Court relating to claims brought by New York’s Child Protective Services.
  • Co-drafted amicus brief on behalf of Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs relating to whether a prison sentence resulting in solitary confinement would violate a criminal defendant’s constitutional rights.

Sean received his J.D., magna cum laude, in 2015 from Brooklyn Law School, where he was executive articles and symposium editor of the Journal of Law and Policy. He received a B.A. in comparative literature from University of Chicago in June 2006.
