U.S. Coast Guard Issues Additional Guidance for Dealing with Shutdown
Blog
January 25, 2019
The Coast Guard has issued additional guidance regarding the Coast Guard efforts to continue to support the U.S. maritime industry during the government shutdown, within the limits of the law. In short, persons should submit applications for Certificates of Financial Responsibility and Certificates of Documentation. Even though those applications cannot presently be reviewed or approved, the Coast Guard will permit vessels to continue to operate despite expired documents, provided the vessel can present evidence that applications have been submitted. The Coast Guard guidance regarding commercial vessel safety is available here. More detailed guidance regarding the National Maritime Center is available here.
