Winston & Strawn was awarded the 2022 Alice Paul Award by the Equal Rights Amendment North Carolina Alliance (ERA-NC), an organization that agrees ratification of the ERA will improve women’s lives in North Carolina and the United States. The award is in recognition of Winston’s “outstanding dedication to the vision of equal rights for women in the U.S. Constitution through exceptional pro bono support.” Since June 2021, a team of 72 Winston partners, associates, of counsel, practice attorneys, and staff have spent over 860 pro bono hours working with the ERA-NC in support of their mission to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.

Charlotte Managing Partner Danielle Williams accepted the award on behalf of the firm during the Annual Meeting of the ERA-NC. It was presented to Danielle by ERA-NC’s Co-President Lori Bunton.

The award’s namesake Alice Paul was a trailblazer and warrior for women’s rights. A vocal leader of the twentieth century women’s suffrage movement, Paul advocated for and helped secure passage of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, granting women the right to vote. She next authored the Equal Rights Amendment in 1923.
