Winston & Strawn sponsored the Kellogg School of Management's 13th Private Equity and Venture Capital Conference, "Finding Growth in the Next Generation," held on February 15, 2012 in Chicago.
Brian Schafer, a partner in the firm's corporate department who concentrates his practice in mergers and acquisitions and securities transactions, moderated the panel titled "Operational Expertise: Adding Value Beyond the Transaction." This panel highlighted funds that focus on adding value by providing operational expertise to their portfolio companies. It focused on which strategies are successful and how funds clearly demonstrate the benefits of those strategies to generate superior returns and win deals at attractive prices. Mr. Schafer was joined by Anthony K. Kesman, senior partner at Linden; Martin Taylor, principal and president of Vista Consulting Group, Vista Equity Partners; and James Utts, operating partner at RoundTable Healthcare Partners.
