Winston & Strawn Attorneys Receive Pro Bono Achievement Award from Animal Legal Defense Fund

Winston & Strawn attorney Greg McConnell received the 2014 Advancement in Animal Law Pro Bono Achievement Award from the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF). 

In April, Winston attorneys secured a Manhattan Supreme Court judge’s ruling compelling the NYPD to comply with a Freedom of Information Act request and turn over any records of incidents involving the city’s horse-drawn carriages. ALDF claimed that there is evidence of ongoing violations, accidents, and injuries, but the police had refused to release the public records. The ruling will help to reveal the frequency of accidents involving carriage horses and provide accountability.
