October 20, 2015 - October 22, 2015

Winston & Strawn sponsored the Eighth Annual Utility Scale Solar Summit 2015 in San Diego on October 20-22. The conference focused on the key trends impacting the utility scale sector and what they mean for the future of the industry.

Jerry Bloom, chair of the firm’s Energy, Project Development, and Project Finance Practice, moderated two sessions on October 21. “PURPA—an Old Tool to Unlock New Project Opportunities” explored the potential use of PURPA to win PPAs as the costs of solar power continue to decline. “Reducing System Costs to Competing in the Post-2016 Era” assessed how using thin film module technologies, high efficient c-Si modules, in-field racking assembly strategies, and independent row trackers can lead to competitive capital cost and LCOE advantage. It also explored how further technical efficiencies will be used and how early adopters will take higher risks to benefit and separate from the crowd.
