Winston Sponsors Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program
March 21, 2016
Winston & Strawn sponsored the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program on March 21 in the firm’s Chicago office.
A delegation of 19 attorneys, judges, and prosecutors from around the world are visiting the United States under the auspices of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. Their program is arranged by the Institute of International Education. Pro Bono Counsel Greg McConnell and other Winston attorneys were in attendance.
Objectives outlined by the State Department include:
- Examine U.S. and international initiatives to promote and protect human rights;
- Explore the legislative framework and political perspectives on current and pending efforts to ensure human and civil rights in the United States;
- Observe how organizations monitor, influence and advocate for civil rights policy at the local, state, national, and international levels in the United States;
- Gain insight into how to engage youth in civic participation; and
- Provide understanding of how human rights groups can work effectively across regions and across borders.
