Winston’s Peter Crowther Weighs in on Brexit
June 24, 2016
London Office Managing Partner Peter Crowther was quoted in The Lawyer’s June 24, 2016, article titled “London's Position as Gateway to Europe ‘Under Threat’ as U.S. Bosses Look to Continent.”
The article addresses the UK’s exit from the EU and the questions it has raised regarding its role as the gateway to Europe for overseas law firms. Some believe Brexit could result in a decrease of building London practices since demand for certain areas of work will dwindle.
Mr. Crowther told The Lawyer that U.S. firms were likely to recognize London’s continued key role in the international business community in Europe, and that English law would continue to have a dominant presence in the global legal industry.
“There may however be less willingness to invest directly in certain parts of continental Europe,” Mr. Crowther added.
In addition to the London office, Mr. Crowther also serves as managing partner of Winston’s Brussels office. He has significant experience of trade/sanctions laws, European Union (EU) merger control, national and international cartels, state aid, free movement, and other general EU and competition law.
