Winston & Strawn Litigation Partners Tom Melsheimer, John Sanders, and Katrina Eash are recognized as 2019 Texas Trailblazers by Texas Lawyer. This inaugural list profiles attorneys who are agents of change.

The publication highlights Winston’s Dallas Office Managing Partner Tom Melsheimer for his invaluable A-to-Z lawyers’ guide to courtroom preparation and strategy entitled On the Jury Trial: Principles and Practices for Effective Advocacy, which he co-authored with Judge Craig Smith. The book includes actual trial testimony, annotated with the authors’ commentary. “It’s not just telling stories about what we did or how we like to approach things, but actually taking apart moments in a case and explaining why something worked well and why something didn’t,” Tom said.

Dallas Partners John Sanders and Katrina Eash are recognized for their work defending large multi-level marketing (MLM) companies in complicated class-action lawsuits. They are one of the only law large law firms with this niche practice and have defended about half of the major direct-selling companies accused of operating pyramid schemes. As for the future, John and Katrina hope to protect their clients against deceptive-practices investigations by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). “You can’t really ever bulletproof one of these companies from an FTC investigation in the current climate. But you can definitely get them in a position to push back hard and have strong legs to stand on when the FTC comes knocking,” they said.
