Winston Hosts Reception and Screening of Equal Means Equal

In the spring of 2017, Nevada became the 36th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), a proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution stating that civil rights may not be denied on the basis of sex. A bill is pending in Springfield, Illinois that would make Illinois the 37th state to ratify the amendment. The ERA would then be only one state short of the necessary 38 ratifications to become part of the U.S. Constitution, thus setting the stage for the final legislative measures needed to enact this important law.

Winston & Strawn is committed to this cause, and hosted a cocktail reception and screening of Equal Means Equal, the important documentary film about gender inequality in the United States and the modern fight for equal rights under the Constitution. The program included a discussion about the current state of the ratification effort, featuring a conversation with the film’s director/producer, Kamala Lopez.
