Winston & Strawn’s Chicago Office Move Featured in Law360

Winston & Strawn’s recent move to its new Chicago office space at 300 North LaSalle has been featured in Law360. The new space is inspiring greater in-office attendance and Chairman Steve D’Amore told Law360 that it’s generating a healthy dose of “FOMO”.

“People want to be in the office for fear of missing the energy that exists in this workplace,” he said.

As one of the largest and oldest law firms in the Windy City, Winston wanted its Chicago office to underscore its commitment to the city while also serving as a gateway to the firm's global operations. “We were looking for a new home in Chicago that would both be rooted in this city, where we have been for over 150 years, and a gateway to the rest of the world where we operate, and a home away from home for our clients and guests,” Steve said.

“We have a policy of encouraging people to come in three to four days a week,” said Chicago Office Managing Partner Bill O’Neil. “And the move has been one of the most transformative things that anyone could ever do to inspire a growth in that attendance.”

He told Law360 he finds it easier to feel the new workplace’s energy traversing its glass-fronted hallways, where electronic signage outside individual Offices links to attorneys’ calendars and lights up in different colors to indicate whether they are busy, available, or away. “As you walk down the hallway, you can see a full office of people,” he said. “It just creates an energy and a vibrancy.”

Steve and Bill stepped into their leadership roles in June 2024. “The energy of that leadership transition under Steve's direction has energized the firm at large, and then this office move in Chicago, as kind of a follow-on to that leadership transition, has supercharged the excitement around this office,” Bill said.
