Winston & Strawn was a proud sponsor of the 2025 ChIPs Global Summit, which brings together women from all over the world working in technology, policy, private practice, corporations, government, academia, and beyond. Each year, the summit aims to advance innovation through diversity of thought and connect women through engagement opportunities.

Partner Kathi Vidal was featured on a panel at the summit discussing the future of intellectual property in the age of artificial intelligence. The session, titled “The Next Decade of IP and AI: Balancing Innovation, Privacy and Global Policy in a Borderless Digital Economy,” included co-panelists former USPTO Director Michelle Lee, founder and CEO of Obsidian Strategies, and Director of the U.S. Copyright Office Shira Perlmutter.

As former Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and a ChIPs Hall of Fame inductee, Kathi brought deep insight into how AI is transforming intellectual property law—addressing the impact on patents, copyrights, and trade secrets, including her experience leading high-profile trade secret actions in the AI space. She also discussed how AI tools are reshaping the legal practice and explored the intersection of AI, privacy, and global regulatory frameworks.

Kathi’s remarks highlight Winston’s leadership in advising clients at the forefront of innovation and navigating the evolving legal landscape surrounding AI and emerging technologies.
