Winston has signed the Campaign for Greener Arbitrations’ (CGA) Green Pledge, an initiative aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of international arbitrations through behavioral changes. The CGA is a global effort to raise awareness of the environmental impact of international arbitration and promote best practices to minimize this impact. The Green Pledge outlines eight guiding principles, including encouraging the use of videoconferencing instead of travel, using electronic submissions and correspondence, and offsetting carbon emissions from arbitration-related travel.

Michael Stepek, Chair of Winston’s International Arbitration practice, stated, “We are committed to operating as a responsible business by integrating sustainability throughout our International Arbitration practice. The principles of the Campaign for Greener Arbitrations align with our firmwide strategy to minimize our environmental impact and we eagerly anticipate supporting this initiative and furthering our efforts towards a more sustainable future.”

Signing the Green Pledge is a significant step for Winston in meeting its target of 50% carbon reduction by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050. It also forms part of a broader initiative within Winston’s global arbitration practice to provide clients with more sustainable options.
