Winston & Strawn Chairman Steve D’Amore and Chicago Office Managing Partner Bill O’Neil were featured in a Chicago Lawyer article highlighting the firm’s new Chicago office at 300 N. LaSalle. Designed to be modern, sustainable, and cutting-edge, the space provides an atmosphere that invites collaboration and creativity, as well as a place to break bread and socialize. A central feature of the new office is a café that serves as a gathering hub with varied seating for attorneys and staff, encouraging conversation. The space transforms weekly into a space for happy hour and informal connection.

Reflecting on the firm’s deep ties to its hometown, Steve said, “There is something about Chicago, the root of our organization. We believe deeply in this city and its connections to the rest of the world.”

The new office features small coffee bar areas on each floor where people can enjoy coffee, a snack, and conversation in small booths. The work floors feature single-person office pods with windows and electronic name plates that synchronize directly with an occupant’s calendar. Colored frames indicate whether an occupant is available, in a meeting or out of the office. Bill explained that the feature is intended as an invitation to connect.

“We are mostly an in-office culture,” Steve said. “We created a work environment that’s engaged by the use of the space.”

The space also includes a modular mock courtroom located on the reception floor, which can be configured to simulate an appellate court or bench trial with a jury box. The courtroom is used to train younger attorneys and help clients prepare for trial.

“We sit with our clients so when they do go to court it’s not the first time,” Bill said. “We are able to work before a trial to run through all the examinations.”

Steve noted that the firm’s main reception area, conference rooms and mock courtroom were intentionally designed as client-focused spaces. He emphasized that the office reflects the firm’s current and future needs.

“This space is appropriate for our work priorities in 2025 and the future,” he said. “This space is inviting for the next generation of lawyers.”
