Winston & Strawn Chairman Steve D’Amore spoke with The American Lawyer about the firm’s continued growth and its anticipated transatlantic combination with Taylor Wessing.
“It was a record year in terms of revenue, a record year in terms of equity partner profits, and all while building that transatlantic combination that will be a launchpad for us in the future,” Steve said.
He highlighted the firm’s strength across key transactional areas, including public company work, private equity, and global finance, as well as its role in major deals such as Chart Industries’ $13.6 billion sale to Baker Hughes. He also pointed to significant litigation matters, including representing racing teams in a landmark antitrust case against NASCAR that resulted in lasting changes to team charter agreements.
Looking ahead, Steve noted that London will be a major contributor to the firm’s future success, with a significantly expanded presence following the combination. He added that this growth is expected to create a “halo effect” in one of the world’s leading financial markets.
He also reiterated that Winston’s core strengths—critical transactions, strategic IP, major litigation, and private wealth—reflect a broader focus on capital and innovation, which help unify the combined firm.
