The 2019 International Anti-Commercial Bribery and Compliance Conference hosted by Borscon was held on December 12-13, 2019 in Shanghai, China. This two-day conference is dedicated to the exchange of thoughts on how to improve business management to achieve compliant operation, with top legal and compliance executives of international businesses sharing practical cases, management solutions, and best practices.

In light of the enhanced anti-corruption efforts in China against both domestic and foreign companies and individuals, it has become one of the top priorities for companies to reduce legal risks relating to commercial bribery. Steve Grimes, chair of Winston & Strawn’s Asia Litigation practice, discussed how to handle the most rigorous investigations in China. Joined by other panelists, Steve led an insightful panel discussion “How to handle the most rigorous investigation in China?” which discussed the following topics:

  • Local and international enforcement trends impacting on multinational companies in China
  • Key factors in ensuring a thorough, defensible and cost-effective investigation
  • Internal and external challenges and pitfalls of investigating in China, and what to do with them
  • How to manage political and business relationships in light of increasing anti-commercial bribery law enforcement
