Steve D’Amore Mentioned in Law360 Article on Corn Syrup Case Dismissal
April 22, 2014
Winston & Strawn partner Steve D’Amore was mentioned in the Law360 article, “ADM, Cargill Escape $5M Suit Linking Corn Syrup to Diabetes” on April 21, 2014. The article details a New York federal judge’s decision to dismiss a $5 million product liability and false advertising lawsuit alleging that high-fructose corn syrup made by Archers Daniels Midland Co. (ADM), Cargill Inc., and other food companies caused type 2 diabetes in a 14-year-old girl.
U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny agreed with the defendants, represented by Mr. D’Amore, that type 2 diabetes is a multifactorial disease and plaintiff did not effectively show that corn syrup was the direct cause of the girl’s diabetes.
