Seth Farber Discusses Cartel Enforcement Around the World
May 17, 2012
Winston & Strawn litigation partner Seth Farber, based in the firm's New York office, spoke on a panel titled "Navigating the Globe: Cartel Enforcement Around the World, Chapter 3: Japan." This program, presented by the American Bar Association's Cartel and Criminal Practice Committee and International Committee, was the third chapter in a multi-part series examining critical issues for international cartel practitioners in key enforcement jurisdictions around the world.
The May 17, 2012 session on Japan, an established and leading Asian jurisdiction in the criminal prosecution of cartels, addressed Japan's Antimonopoly Act, which has been amended and strengthened repeatedly to provide for changes in economy and industrial structure. The Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) enforces the Antimonopoly Act and eradicating cartels and collusion is a top priority of the Commission. Mr. Farber, along with Toshiyuki Nambu, deputy secretary general for International Affairs, Japan Fair Trade Commission, and Tsutomu (Riki) Nakato, of Hibiya Sogo Law Office, discussed a variety of issues concerning this cartel enforcement regime.
