Papavizas Comments on Mariner Oil Spill
September 3, 2010
Charlie Papavizas, a maritime partner based in Winston & Strawn's Washington, D.C. office, was quoted in Fairplay's September 3 article titled "US braces for gulf fire fallout."
As a result of Mariner Energy's platform fire on September 2, U.S. regulators could extend a drilling moratorium. "Politicians might get hysterical over this – or they might ignore it," Mr. Papavizas told Fairplay. Adding, "I'm sure that the industry is hoping there's not an over-reaction – and the US economy should hope that's the case too, because it's a very significant industry."
The U.S. Interior Department had considered lifting the six-month ban on new drilling before its November 30 expiration.
