On March 20, 2014, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio signed into law the second amendment to the city’s Earned Sick Time Act, the sick leave law originally passed in 2013. This second amendment, as well as a prior amendment and the law itself, takes effect on April 1, 2014, and requires most private employers to provide up to 40 hours of paid or unpaid sick leave per year to employees working in New York City for at least 80 hours per year.
